A fire has broken out in a swampy area near Longs and is about 20 acres in size, officials said Sunday.

Horry County Fire Rescue and the South Carolina Forestry Commission are working to get it under control.

The Horry County department responded to the fire on Hemingway Landing around 5 a.m., according to a department Twitter post. The fire was around 4 acres in size at the time.

There have been no injuries reported, but a structure has been damaged.

Officials say smoke will be visible for an extended period of time. They expect to be working on the fire throughout the day.

Authorities have not said how the fire started. It is not clear yet if it was a result of the dry weather in the area.

On Wednesday, Horry County government instituted a burn ban until further notice covering unincorporated parts of the county. The dry weather and relatively low humidity increased the risk of fire danger, prompting the decision, according to a news release from Horry County.

The rule applies to outdoor burning, and anyone who starts a fire outdoors would be violating the law.

Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a 10-acre blaze in the Little River area Tuesday morning. There were no injuries or property damage reported.
