East Penn Township discussed replacing three aging culverts along tributaries of the Lizard Creek.

During a board meeting Monday night, roadmaster Brandon Bradford said he had gotten quotes to replace three culverts located along Germans and Lauchnor roads.

Bradford said the township has funds budgeted for one of the projects, but the supervisors tabled discussion to see if COVID relief funds could be used for the project.

“It would be better for us,” Supervisor William G. Schwab said.

Bradford said the most needed project is to replace one on Germans near Nothstein Road, at a cost of $27,343. He said the pipe is deteriorating.

He also obtained quotes for two other culverts, a 4.5-foot diameter pipe on Germans near Stone Mountain Road, and a 6-foot pipe on Lauchnor.

The board of supervisors:

• Voted to move forward with two grant applications – one to acquire land for a recreation trail, and another to add township offices at the East Penn Township Community Center.

• Adopted a resolution endorsing the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, which will help mark the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

• Amended the fee schedule ordinance to state that applicants for zoning permits will be billed for any expenses incurred by the township which exceed the fee, and any fees noted as “paid under protest,” or “with reservations” will cause the submission to be rejected.
