Hey there listeners, it’s Brett Molina. Welcome back to Talking Tech. It’s Christmas Eve, and I don’t know if you’re in the holiday spirit fully just yet, if you need a little bit of a pick me up, or maybe you just want to go around the neighborhood or in your city or town or wherever you are, and you want to find out where all the cool holiday decorations are and the cool houses that are lit up.
There’s one place you can turn to, Nextdoor. Nextdoor rolled out an annual holiday cheer map where users can mark their home as decorated, or where you can look for festive setups. You can read more about this on tech.usatoday.com. The map is sponsored by Home Depot, and what it does is it allows users to mark their own holiday decorations, or plan the perfect sightseeing route to show your community, these are all the houses with all the cool lights and all the cool Santas and everything that you’d want.
As part of this announcement, a couple weeks ago Nextdoor also shared results of a poll that showed users of the social network app, I’m sure a lot of people use it just to keep track of what’s going on in the neighborhood. It showed that a lot of users are ready to decorate for the holidays, which is understandable. We have been dealing with this pandemic for the longest time, and we just are in big need of cheer.
According to the survey of close to 85,000 Nextdoor users in the US, 90% said they planned to decorate this holiday season. In that same poll, 70% said they had put up their holiday decorations in November, and some actually started putting their lights and displays out before Thanksgiving. And I’ve seen this, I saw some folks even a week before Thanksgiving were already talking about decorating for Christmas, and getting their tree and everything.
I think everybody has been looking forward to Christmas for the longest time. So, it’s Christmas Eve. If you’re looking for that last minute holiday cheer, drive around your neighborhood, and you can use Nextdoor to find out of cool neighborhoods that are doing fun stuff and try to get yourself into the holiday spirit the day before Christmas. Listeners, let’s hear from you. Do you have any comments, questions, show ideas, any tech problems you want us to try to address?
