Earlier, the supervisor found that the money in the cash box had decreased by RM360 and upon receiving CCTV footage, Shahrul was seen stealing the cash.
Shahrul was charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine on conviction.
Duty Counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Shahrul, requested a lenient sentence saying that he has dependents namely his parents.
Lim said the reason Shahrul committed the offence was because he did not receive his salary on time and needed money for his family’s daily expenses. Kelvan applied for an adequate sentence.
