Oslo-listed DOF Subsea has been awarded a key contract on a Gabon project which will involve the first use of its freshly upgraded Skandi Constructor installation vessel.

DOF will carry out subsea construction and installation services on Vaalco Energy’s Etame field to support the subsea reconfiguration associated with the replacement of the existing Petroleo Nautipa floating production, storage and offloading unit with a floating storage and offloading vessel.

Engineering and design work has started with the offshore campaign forecast to begin in July and expected to be completed by September 2022.

Skandi Constructor was upgraded in 2021 with a 250 tonne crane and was also outfitted with a pair of remotely operated vehicles.

The vessel is currently working in Trinidad and will return to the North Sea before carrying out the Gabonese job.

DOF will provide all personnel, crew and equipment necessary to assist with reconfiguring the Etame field subsea infrastructure to flow field production to the replacement FSO, said Vaalco.

The workscope includes transporting over five kilometres of new flexible pipelines from the UK to Gabon; retrieval and relocation of existing infield flowlines and umbilicals; and assisting in the connection of new risers to the FSO.

Commenting on the contract, Vaalco chief executive George Maxwell said: “We continue to progress forward with our field reconfiguration and FSO conversion at Etame, on time and within the capital guidance we previously provided.”

The FSO is set to increase effective storage capacity by over 50% and halve costs compared to the current FPSO, he said, adding that “this project will significantly improve our margins, enhance our cash flow generation and sustain our operational excellence and robust financial performance at Etame through 2030.”
