The state of North Carolina is looking to fill positions in a variety of departments – and some jobs pay much more than what the average resident earns.

Most state employees are eligible for benefits, which include health insurance, paid parental leave, wellness and retirement.

Here are some of the highest-paying state jobs in the Charlotte area. The top salary levels for these positions are at least twice the average individual income in North Carolina ($31,993), according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

IT Support Specialist | Permanent full-time

Location: Mecklenburg County

Department: Administrative Office of the Courts

Salary: $63,392 to $104,719 annually

The IT support specialist provides support for production information technology for judicial staff in Mecklenburg County. A bachelor’s degree in computer science and one year of IT experience is required.

The filing deadline is April 7.

Assistant Regional Engineer I | Permanent full-time

Location: Iredell County

Department: Environmental Quality

Salary: $48,051 to $86,431 annually

The assistant regional engineer performs reviews of erosion and sediment control applications, and conducts inspections of Department of Energy, Mineral & Land Resources sites. A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.

The filing deadline is April 7.

Assistant District Attorney | Permanent full-time

Location: Lincoln County

Department: District Attorney

Salary: $49,000 to $84,658 annually

The assistant district attorney’s role is to prosecute criminal cases. Duties include screening incoming cases to identify the strengths and weaknesses of case facts and preparing cases for trial. A J.D. from an accredited law school is required.

The filing deadline is April 5.

The state also is seeking an assistant district attorney for Iredell County. The filing deadline is April 4.

Licensed Mental Health Professional | Permanent full-time

Location: Cabarrus County

Department: Public Safety

Salary: $46,203 to $78,218 annually

The primary purpose of this position is to provide mental health services for juveniles assigned to a youth development center. A master’s degree in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling or another human services related field is required.

The filing deadline is April 24.

Elevator Inspector | Permanent full-time

Location: Mecklenburg County

Department: Labor

Salary: $46,203 to $78,218 annually

Elevator inspector inspects a variety of passenger-carrying devices to determine safe operating conditions and detect potential hazards or mechanical failures. A high school diploma or GED and five years of experience are required. Candidates who have never worked for the state may be eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus.
